if your mom is having trouble with the remote, it might not just be because she can't read/see the buttons. this device obviously eliminates those problems, very nicely.

what it doesn't do is teach a senior citizen how to use a remote for multiple devices. probably nothing can, at this rate. (and i say that having been a professional IT trainer and documentation expert for almost 20 years!)

it's not the item's fault, although the layout of the buttons isn't great. i tried to use the item myself, but found it so huge and awkward to hold, i actually just gave up and freecycled it to a neighbor!

Large buttons light-up and are easy to read at night. The "master volume" setting works the TV, DVD, and other untis --Except the VCR. I confirmed this in the owners manual. Have not called tech support to see if there is a work around. The play, reverse, and fast forward buttons are not logically placed. However, this unit appears to be the best easy to read, illuminated remote available today based on my internet searches.

I first tried AVERMEDIA AVERTV USB2.0 and returned the product after 2 days of HELL. The product is incompatible with Ali and ATI chipsets. The company warns you about that on a corner of the package (read the fine print). Remember you must install driver and software first, then plug the device for the first time. Anyhow, the image was acceptable but the program would hang every 7 or 11 minutes, which is a nuisance. Support from AVERMEDIA is brilliantly NON-EXISTENT or perhaps they don't even have a SUPPORT department.

Disappointed but without giving up on my dream to be able to watch TV on my notebook computer, I continued my research all over the internet, reading reviews from all over the world and in different languages, I also visited LEADTEK's website. They manufacture the Winfast TV USB II Deluxe... well, it rang a bell. This company also manufactured award winning products. So after my research I decided to give the WINFAST TV USB II DELUXE a try.

This baby ROCKS!!! not only does it provide the best image, but also STEREO sound!!! This is something most other TV capture devices DO NOT provide.

EXCELLENT IMAGE QUALITY
EXCELLENT STEREO SOUND
DOES NOT USE UP YOUR CPU POWER OR MEMORY which means even users with slower computers will be able to enjoy high quality tv on their machines.... and power-users will still be able to run power-crunching apps while keeping up with the news or with Desperate House Wives.

The icing on the cake:
1. FM reception with provided antenna (you can record to MP3)
2. Three (3) Additional and externally powered USB ports
3. Very cool and handy remote control, even lets you turn your notebook on or off
4. TOP OF THE LINE software (software alone worth over US100.00)
5. Lovely carrying case that fits nicely in my backpack compartment.
6. You can record directly to DVD format without storing the video on your hard drive and with IN-SYNC video :D woohoo!!!

Conclusion: GET THE WINFAST TV USB II DELUXE and stop wasting your time with other products.

I bought this TV Tuner from Newegg.com to replace a Kworld Tuner that was a piece of junk.

It works as intended. Video and Audio are in sync (it wasn't on the Kworld). It is a small box. I wish the ports were not on three sides which forces you to hide it, but otherwise I am very happy with it. The resizable video window is easy to operate. The video is crisp and clean. It was easy to hook up. The remote is small and aesthetically pleasing.

4-12-06 update: When it worked, it was greaat, but it started having problems (computer did not recognize it) so I sent it back. The replacement had the same problem so I sent it back and got another product by another manufacturer to replace it.

Bought this thing based on the earlier reviews and the description, and it sounded very good device. However, when the unit arrived, I had some problems with it. For example, I could never tune to any FM station. Looking through forums and reviews, I got an impression that this is a common problem, but I was never able to find a solution. Also, despite what the leadtek site says, I couldn't get audio through the USB cable on my Win XP computer. I had to use the external connection to the microphone, which of course resulted in the horrible sound quality.

I returned this one, I look for something else.

I haven't tried any other cases, but I can't even imagine anything being any better than this one. It is really thin so it doen't seem to add much thickness which was my main worry. Very nice soft touch thats not only on the outside, but on the inside of the case as well. Seems to be very sturdy, but I haven't dropped it yet so I can't comment on that. All of the cut-outs match the phone perfectly except the power button, which is slightly off. Despite the slight off-center, it doesn't hinder the function at all. (Maybe the Nexus S on t-mobile has a different power button placement. I have a NS 4G from Sprint) Overall, I am super satisfied with this case.

UPDATE: Mine just got 3 large cracks from normal usage without any drops. One crack worked its way enough to have a piece break off the bottom. Not sure if this is a widespread issue, but don't expect this case to last long. I have a feeling this is because I sometimes like to take the case off and put it back on for no reason. When taking the case off, it requires stretching it slightly. Several months of this could probably cause the cracking issue.

I gave it four stars because, as mic stands go it's cheap, but it gets the job done and is convenient and very portable. A pros and cons rating system would have been better for an item like this. The collapsible feature is great, though you'll need to have an Allen wrench handy to tighten the legs up so it sits level, it has a tendency to lean a little one way or the other, but that's no big deal.

Fits standard microphones, decent quality materials, and it's durable. I'd recommend it for podcasters or anyone who does on-location audio interviews. It will pack up easy, take up little space and set up quick.

So my Sennheiaser PX200s (which I love, and have abused for five years) have finally reached their EOL mostly due to me now constantly living on an iPhone, where I need the ability to make and receive telephone calls. I've been using the stock earbud/headset that comes with the phone, which works great for making calls, but has horrible audio (no definition, no bass, muddy mids, and shrill highs - ick). But hey, I could answer the phone and be that annoying guy talking to himself that everyone stays away from at the mall.

While looking at headset/earbud reviews, I saw that Sennheiser had launched a new line. My PX200s now have an integrated mike - but what's this? A bluetooth headset based on the PX100s? Hm, that could be interesting. So when I found a pair of refurbished MM100s for ~$60, I had to give them a shot - it was too good a deal to pass up.

Pros
Great Sound (not audiophile, but much better than $60 would warrant)
No cord (No tangles with my work badge and seatbelt - this should save a couple minutes of becoming situated while getting in and out of the car.)
Very light - I forgot I had them on a few times - until someone looked at me, that is.
Bluetooth pairing was only as annoying as any other bluetooth pairing (no marks against)
Bluetooth range is great (wandered around the house all evening

Cons
Recipients say my phone calls sound like they're from a *long* way away. When I switched back to the iPhone earbuds, they all said, "Oh good, you're talking directly into the phone now. Thank you." (Which says a lot of good about the iPhone earbuds and voice calls.)
Switches feel a little plastic-y (wondering if they'll last the way the venerable PX200s have).
My wife said I look like Larry the Cucumber on his space mission (readers with children will understand that reference). Or, a bit like Picard of Borg, for you geeks.

More on the sound (can you tell I'm listening in alphabetical order?):
Animal by Steve Vai (nice, a little muddy in the bass, but overall clear)
Another Island of Women by Don Ross (solo acoustic guitar - *very* nice, especially the low 'C' notes he plays)
Another Nail in my Heart by Squeeze (very poppy - solid. I see why folks liked the PX100s. There was no break in period for these. My PX200 required a couple of weeks before the bass loosened up and sounded this way).
Answering Machine by The Replacements (sounds just as raw as they recorded it)
Answers by Steve Vai (dare I say - a little too bassy? Wasn't expecting that. Especially on the cans at the ~minute mark.)
April in Paris by Count Basie and his Orchestra w/Tony Bennett (a tad muddled in the mids, but overall quite nice)
Are We The Waiting by Green Day - (opening drums were very spacious and booming)

OK - that's enough for now. Well worth the money, and I'll do more testing with the phone. If the iPhone mike doesn't work out, I can happily use them as a solo headset, and then try out the PX200-ii (they're iPhone compatible, and going for ~$80 right now).

I love these things. They last about five days between charges. I wear them to and from work daily, plus conference calls from home. The microphone *does* work well for conference calls in a non-ambient environment (they're wonderful in my car). If I'm sitting at the kitchen table, and the kids are running around, then the other participants in the conference call hear my kids too. As to wear and tear, I've been using them non-stop for eight months, and they still look new. I'm very happy with these, and would definitely buy them again.

Charger is NOT microusb! microUSB -- used by most other devices -- readily available at home/work/borrow interchangeably between devices, but this proprietary jack is another thing for you to carry. sucks! it's a $150 headset and they didn't spend a couple bucks on a standard jack?

They get "stuck", unable to connect to handset (used with iPhone, laptop, and android). You can't even turn them off and back on. Occasionally, the sound will still be output, but the headset controls like volume stop working. The blue light flashes rapidly and constantly, uninterrupted. The only way to work around this is to plug them into their charged. However, unless you're carrying their proprietary cable, you can't do this everywhere -- exacerbated by the first problem.

Audio quality is among the best for portable over-the-ear headphones of this type. They're large enough, with thick padding to block out wind noise too when outside. Decent comfort; can be used for hours.

SUMMARY: Not worth the price. Although this device has better sound quality than the other BT headsets I used, one doesn't purchase a portable headset exclusively for this (for best quality a corded format with over-the-ear chamber or rubber/molding in-ear bugs are preferred). A portable device also needs to be _portable_. The fact that it has problems connecting and you can't charge it with other cords (microUSB) breaks the deal.

My Mom came for a visit and brought this interesting gadget with her: The Mouse Trap. I was so fascinated by it that I ordered one immediately for myself. It is a great thing to have especially if you have a laptop and use it in various places. It's a real nice material and folds up like a pouch. When it is folded up you can put your mouse in there and anything else you can fit. In mine, I have my mouse, pens and pencils and a few of my memory cards for quick access. You unzip it when you use it and it is then your mouse pad. When it is unfolded, it has a ring on the bottom part (the part you put on the surface) that acts as a grip so you are not sliding all over the place while using your mouse. This item is a must have and I am so glad that I purchased it!

The only caveat I have for use of this product is that the straps that affix the unit to the bumper (and are intended to be anchored in the trunk) have Velcro anchor strips that failed to do the job for me after limited wear.

It looks exactly like the picture. High quality wire, unwinds nice and flat and straight, easy to route where I needed it, fits banana clips well. I measured carefully and I think there was slightly MORE than 100' on the spool - how awesome is that?! My speakers sound great and I'm completely happy with this purchase.

High quality wire. Oxygen free. Very flexible with good thick insulation. Purchased before & purchasing again. Whoever says this is not 12 gauge wire needs to get a life. If you want to split hairs - stranded wire can carry more current than solid wire of the exact same diameter. Here's why. When electricity flows through a wire, it mostly flows on the surface of the wire, not through the middle. This effect is more pronounced on high frequency AC (like audio frequencies) than it is on DC or low frequency AC. This means that a "wire" of a given size that is made up of many smaller strands can carry more power than a solid wire - simply because the stranded wire has more surface area. Why nitpick? It's good wire at a good price. Works great in my mix & editing suites.

The cable arrived with the ends cut to a diagonal, from first glance it was obvious what was done. I didn't even bother to hook it up and started the return process right away.

Card works great in my Sony A200k camera. Was concerned about write performance, but it has not been an issue. Camera has beeen very fast. Flash card does not appear to be a bottleneck at all. Good deal on this CF card for 8GB. Better bargain than SAN Disk.

[ UPDATE: Make sure you format the card in the camera. After doing so, this card is working much better. The following was written when using the mem card straight out of the package (it was pre-formatted). ]

I bought 2 of these a few days ago, before reading the reviews here. After reading the reviews, I decided to see how it compared to my previous 2Gb Kingston 50x card.

Using my Canon Rebel XT camera, with picture setting on Large/Fine (8 megapixel photos) and in burst mode I was able to take 13 consecutive photos with this new card, and the camera completed writing to the flash card about 43 seconds after first pressing the shutter button. So yes, it will work fine for everyday shooting.
I then tried the older 50x card which I probably bought sometime around 2005. With it, I was able to take 16 consecutive photos (before it started lagging), and it completed writing all those to flash after 14 seconds. (I did both measurements 3 different times, and they all turned out pretty close)

So to make a comparison - for the 13 picts in 43 seconds, would be equivalent to 16 in 53 seconds. So the 50x card will write 16 photos in 14 seconds, the new 133x card will write 16 photos in 53 seconds.

Therefore the new card is about 4 times SLOWER than the older 50x card. Maybe someone at Kingston made a mistake and these were really 13.3x, not 133x??

The only plus to this card is its low cost and large storage size.

UPDATE: After formatting the 133x card in the camera, it is now performing comparable to the 50x card. Which that could indicate its a limitation with the camera memory interface at this point. I would up the star rating, but seems that I can't do it after the review was initially written.

Sometimes they work great then other times not so well. I have used this card in both Canon and Nikon SLR's and both times they would work just fine for a bit then the cameras would start having problems reading the files. And yes I reformat every time so that was not it. I use Lexar and never had this problem nore have I with San Disk just these Kingstones for some reason. Once is enough for me Ill stick with Lexar Pro cards from now on. Stay away from these if you value your photos.
